Swirlydoos Ultimate Designer Challenge - Week 4

The challenge this week really took me out of my element, again.  The medium we had to use was canvas.  Not just an element or embellishment, but the background base of our creation had to be canvas.  We were also encouraged to use different texture mediums like gesso and bead gel.  I had never heard of bead gel before and after seeing the example, I was excited to give it a try.  I also found out that there are a number of other mediums I had not heard of and bought those too.   : )

I had two photos and could not decide which one to work on so I created them both simultaneously.

This is some of the product I used.  Not shown is just about every Glimmer Mist bottle I own.

First, I misted the entire background with Glimmer Mist gold.  Then I laid down a doily mask and proceeded to spray more Glimmer Mist in blue and green.

Continuing with the challenge parameters, I used butterfly and bird stencils and smeared molding paste over them to create these great textures on the canvas.  Once dry, I added some colour to the butterflies but didn't like the outcome and wished I had just left them white.  I ended up using Stickle to try and get one white again.

Part of the challenge was to create more texture and layers using chipboard.  I found out the hard way that my little Cuttlebug will not take chipboard so, instead of embossed dots, I used Liquid Pearls and crackle paint for dimension and more luster rub on for colour on the birdbath.  For the other DA piece, a frame, I stamped and heat embossed a criss-cross pattern, used copper paint, pewter paint, chalk, luster rub on and crackle paint to cover it.

I didn’t want to do anything too similar to the example but I had these Dusty Attic Cherry Blossoms that work perfectly with the layout.  I coloured the chipboard with a pewter paint Dauber by Adirondack then dabbed each blossom with glass beads and coloured them with Luster Rub On in pink.

 The assembly:

I used a Monet painting from a book for in behind the photo.  I just love the colours.

Here is the end result:

Here are close ups of the other canvas I worked on.

I had a lot of fun with this challenge and I can see doing more creations on canvas in the future.
Here is the link to the all the entries this week.

Some of my competitors are making me nervous.  I only hope that I can continue on to week 5.
